Monthly Books Roundup – March 2026

March was a great month for reading. It started out cold but now Spring is in the air with warmer days, road trips, and coffee (or wine) with friends.

I mostly read mysteries this month, but Rachel Hanna came out with her newest book, The Unpolished Life of Eleanor Whitfield, so I had to take a break from my mysteries to visit the small town of Copper Creek. I always enjoy visiting the small towns in Rachel’s books.

March Reading List:

I am still reading the Rose Gardner Mystery Series by Denise Grover Swank, so I read four of these books in March.

  1. Ripple of Secrets by Denise Grover Swank (Rose Gardner Mystery Series)

One of the things I truly enjoyed about this book is how the story unfolds from several different points of view. Chapters from Rose, Mason, Joe, and Hillary add significant depth to the story. I don’t like Hillary, so I particularly appreciated seeing things from her perspective; it helped me understand her character much better. This insight reveals the reasons behind her behavior, adding an intriguing layer to the overall story

    2. Thirty-Four and a Half Predicaments by Denise Grover Swank (Rose Gardner Mystery Series)

I loved this one!! This book kept me engaged from beginning to end. If you enjoy small-town mysteries with strong characters, a touch of humor, and plenty of suspense, this is a must-read! I highly recommend it!

    3. Thirty-Five and a Half Conspiracies by Denise Grover Swank (Rose Gardner Mystery Series)

This book is a fast-paced and entertaining addition to the Rose Gardner Mysteries series. Denise Grover Swank masterfully crafts a compelling mystery brimming with danger, intrigue, and drama in the small town of Fenton County.

    4. The Unpolished Life of Eleanor Whitfield by Rachel Hann

Rachel Hanna has done it again. She has written a book that makes me smile, laugh, and cry all at the same time. This book was a definite five-star read for me—one of those stories that not only entertains but also gently settles into your heart.

I always envision myself living in the fictional small towns from Rachel’s books. She has a unique ability to draw you into her stories, making you feel like a part of them.

    5. Thirty-Six and a Half Motives by Denise Grover Swank (Rose Gardner Mystery Series)

What I loved most was how the author skillfully balanced the tension of a thrilling investigation with well-developed characters and emotional depth. You become invested in the characters while being completely captivated by the unfolding mystery.

    March Reading Thoughts

    • This month’s theme was mysteries with a Small-Town Romance thrown in.
    • Rachel Hanna had a new book release this month and when she releases a book, I am always going to read it as quickly as possible
    • The month started out cold, but now we are starting to see the beginnings of Spring with a bit warmer weather. Still a great time to read.
    • I am ready for warmer weather so I can read around the pool, take road trips, and travel.

    What about you?

The Unpolished Life of Eleanore Whitfield by Rachel Hanna Book Review

Title: The Unpoished Life of Eleanor Whitfield
    Author: Rachel Hanna
    Location: Copper Creek, GA
    Main Character: Eleanore Whitfield
    Other Characters: Wyat, Dolly, Meredith,
    Rating: 5

Rachel Hanna has done it again. She has written a book that makes me smile, laugh, and cry all at the same time. This book was a definite five-star read for me—one of those stories that not only entertains but also gently settles into your heart.

A polished etiquette expert inherits a rundown small-town bar in the small town of Copper Creek. There is a catch: she is required to stay for 6 months and live in the apartment over the bar. What follows is a cozy, emotional journey of starting over, finding community, and discovering what truly matters.

This book resonated with me on a personal level. The idea of leaving everything behind and starting anew somewhere fresh is a dream of mine, and this story made it feel attainable.

I loved Eleanor’s growth, the small-town charm, and the slow-burn romance. It’s one of those books that lingers with you long after you put the book down. The small-town feel and the relatable community members come together to make Eleanor feel at home. The story is filled with humor, friendship, acceptance, second chances, and the discovery of love and a home where you least expect it.

The Wexley Inn by Rachel Hanna

    Title: The Wexley Inn
    Author: Rachel Hanna
Series: The Low Country Ladies Club #1
    Location: Lowcountry South Carolina
    Main Character: Isabella & Thomas
    Rating: 5

I always get excited when Rachel Hanna releases a new book. I love her series because it feels like visiting old friends, but I also enjoy when she starts a new series, as it allows me to meet new friends. The Wexley Inn was no exception; I was captivated by Isabella and Thomas’ story from the very first page.

When Isabella learns that The Wexley Inn is for sale, she feels it’s time to pursue her dream of opening a Bed & Breakfast in the South Carolina Lowcountry. The Inn has been vacant for some time and is in dire need of repairs and updates. She needs to update it to modern standards while preserving its history, so she requires the right contractor for the job.. As she begins the renovation process, she sets out to find the right contractor.. To her surprise, the contractor recommended to her turns out to be her first love, who left her 30 years ago with no explanation. As Isabella and Thomas work together to renovate the Inn, will old sparks reignite, or has the chemistry they once shared faded away? Could the secret Thomas has kept for decades about why he disappeared jeopardize their chances of rekindling an old romance? In a small town, secrets don’t stay hidden for long, especially among the Lowcountry Women’s Club, where gossip spreads faster than sweet tea at a church potluck.

Rachel has done it again by creating a new series with characters that I am already invested in and can’t wait to see what else transpires with the Lowcountry Women’s Club. This deserves every bit of the 5 stars I gave it plus some.

Now & Then by Kay Bratt

    Title: Now & Then
    Author: Kay Bratt
    Series: Hart’s Ridge #13
    Location: Indiana & Hart’s Ridge
    Main Character: Taylor, Sam, Anna
Other Characters: Janelle, Clem, Ed, Julie, Shelly, Thatcher, Jack, Rosana, Vernelle, Kelsey, Pete
    Rating: 5

I have loved this series and its characters since the very first book, and this episode is no exception. Now and Then is the 13th installment of the Hart’s Ridge series.

This book swept me back into the world of Hart’s Ridge with the emotional depth I’ve come to expect from Kay Bratt. Taylor’s transition into private investigations felt seamless, and her pursuit of justice in a long-buried case was compelling and intricately layered. The pacing kept me engaged without feeling rushed, and I appreciated the gradual unveiling of twists that were both surprising and well-earned.

Janelle is Sam’s aunt, and her husband was convicted of murder ten years ago. She is convinced of his innocence and believes he did not commit this heinous crime. Recently, Sam and his wife Taylor have launched their private investigation business, and Janelle seeks their help to prove her husband’s innocence and uncover the real killer. The story takes several twists and turns as they work to determine whether Clem truly committed the crime.

In a subplot, we revisit Taylor’s sister, Anna. Since her divorce, Anna has faced numerous challenges and has worked diligently to rebuild her life for herself and her children. Her storyline adds tension and emotional depth to the narrative. Her determination to clear her name amid complicated accusations—especially those tied to her ex-husband’s powerful family—is compelling. I admire her resilience and the quiet strength she consistently demonstrates.

Kay Bratt excels at creating compelling female leads who balance vulnerability with determination. I appreciate the recurring family themes, emphasizing that even in difficult times, family always comes first and stays united. I couldn’t put this book down and stayed up late to finish it.

This book reminded me why I keep returning to this series: its emotional depth, compelling storytelling, and unwavering sense of justice. I highly recommend this installment to anyone who enjoys a mystery with heart.

Although this series can be read in out of order, I highly recommend beginning with book one so you can get to know the characters and their backstories.

Anyone who enjoys a compelling mystery featuring a strong female lead, brimming with heart and determination, will love this series.

Most of Ms. Bratt’s stories are inspired by real-life events, so be sure to read the end to discover the true experiences that this book is based on.

“Love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you and pray for those who mistreat you and persecute you. ~Matthew 5:44

I was engrossed by this book from the very start. Carolina’s ex-husband infuriated me with his treatment of her, and then her ex-mother-in-law entered the scene, intensifying my anger. I couldn’t put the book down, eager to see what would happen next and how Carolina would navigate the challenges thrown her way.

Jodi Allen Brice’s Lakehouse Promises is a beautifully crafted story that captures the essence of starting over and discovering strength in adversity. The protagonist, Carolina Johnson, is both relatable and inspiring as she faces the challenges of rebuilding her life following a devastating betrayal.

Carolina faces her greatest challenge when she discovers that her husband is having an affair with a woman nearly half his age, who is also pregnant. The situation becomes even more painful when she realizes that her so-called friends were already aware of this and chose not to tell her. In her forties, she is having to start over. She receives the Lakehouse as part of the divorce, prompting her move there to start fresh. With minimal funds and having not worked in nearly 20 years, she now faces the challenge of finding a job. To complicate things further, the Lakehouse is uninhabitable, so she must find a way to transform it into a home.

I admire Carolina’s resilience and determination. She works tirelessly to overcome obstacles and seeks to make her life meaningful. As she builds friendships in her new hometown, she discovers the true essence of friendship.

Laurel Cove provides a cozy and picturesque backdrop for Carolina’s journey, immersing readers in the charm of small-town life. The characters, including Carolina’s difficult neighbor and her outrageously rude former mother-in-law, are vividly portrayed, adding depth to the narrative.

Brice’s storytelling excels as she delves into themes of resilience, self-discovery, and the necessity of releasing bitterness to embrace happiness. The emotional depth and relatable challenges make this book essential for anyone who enjoys tales of second chances and personal growth.

This story is about starting over, overcoming obstacles and learning the true meaning of friendship. If you enjoy heartfelt contemporary fiction that explores themes of starting over and self-discovery, I highly recommend this uplifting story of transformation.
