Since everyone has their own system for rating books, I wanted to share how I evaluate the books I review.
I use a 1 to 5 scale, with 5 being the highest rating.
★★★★★ – I LOVED THIS BOOK! It is incredibly memorable and one of the best in its genre. If I’m new to an author, this is likely the book that hooked me. I might even read it a second time. I highly recommend it to everyone.
★★★★☆ – I REALLY LIKED THIS BOOK. While I enjoyed it, I wouldn’t rate it as the best in the genre. It kept my interest, although there were some slow parts. As a mystery, the ending wasn’t particularly surprising, and there weren’t many twists in the story. There are several reasons why I didn’t give it a 5, but overall, I still found it enjoyable and would recommend it to most people.
★★★☆☆ – I Kind of Liked This Book. It had a good story, though it wasn’t the best I’ve read. I finished it, but I probably wouldn’t read it again. I might recommend it to others, but with some reservations.
★★☆☆☆ – I didn’t particularly enjoy this book. The story had significant flaws, and I wouldn’t recommend it to others.
★☆☆☆☆ – I REALLY DISLIKED THIS BOOK. Reading this book was not enjoyable for me. It had numerous flaws, such as plot holes and underdeveloped characters. While it is memorable, it’s for all the wrong reasons. I would not recommend this book to anyone.
FYI, I rarely give one-star reviews because if a book doesn’t engage me, I typically don’t finish it. I don’t review books I haven’t completed.
Happy Reading!
Suzanne
